Interview with José L. Monserrat
What place does innovation occupy in the care model of Residencial Palau?
Innovation is part of our identity. We do not understand care without constant evolution. We incorporate technologies that improve people’s lives, promote social responsibility projects and actively participate in learning networks. Our commitment to tools such as the exoskeleton is not an isolated action, but part of a deep commitment to a people-centered care model.
What was the reason for considering the implementation of exoskeletons in Residencial Palau?
At Residencial Palau we firmly believe that “The most important thing is you”, and that includes both the elderly people we care for and the professionals who look after them on a daily basis. We decided to incorporate exoskeletons to care for the physical well-being of our team, reduce the risk of injury and, ultimately, provide a healthier and more sustainable work environment. We know that if we take care of those who care, the quality of service also improves.
As an initial phase; where will the exoskeletons be implemented in Residencial Palau?
In this first phase, the exoskeleton is used in the direct assistance area, especially in tasks involving mobilization of people with physical support needs. We want to evaluate its impact on the daily life of the care staff and collect their real experiences as a basis for possible extensions to other areas of the center.
Why did you choose Healthy Suits exoskeletons?
We were convinced by the ergonomic design, ease of use and non-invasive approach of the Muscle Suit Soft Power. We also appreciated the fact that it does not require batteries or motors, which makes it more accessible and practical for an environment like ours, as well as being washable. We were also attracted by the technical support that perfectly understands the needs of a center like ours.
Due to the use of exoskeletons, have the working environments and the health of your workers improved?
Although we are at an early stage, first impressions are very positive. Staff who have tried it report less fatigue and a sense of real support in demanding tasks. These types of innovations contribute to creating a culture of mutual care, where both the health and dignity of workers and residents are prioritized.
From your organization, are you satisfied with the results of working and collaborating with Healthy Suits?
The experience has been excellent. We have felt accompanied throughout the process, from decision making to training and follow-up. We share values of innovation, well-being and respect for people, and we believe that this collaboration reinforces our commitment to a more humane model of care.
