Interview with Alberto Fernandez

What was the reason for considering implementing exoskeletons in your company?

In Sediasa we are clear that one of our fundamental pillars in the organization are the workers and therefore, their health. Compared to the automation of processes, as a method that eliminates or reduces ergonomic risks, the use of this type of equipment improves the safety and health of employees while maintaining the workstations.

In Sediasa we had the need to find ergonomic solutions for workers in a manufacturing plant, where tasks are changing and positions are interchangeable, so we consider it the most pragmatic solution to prevent ergonomic risks. The tasks performed in the factory predominantly involve manual handling of loads, so the use of the exoskeleton has a direct impact on the reduction of efforts and injuries derived from them.

The elimination or reduction of risks derived from manual handling of loads is one of the most important challenges faced by Sediasa, being the first cause of sick leave in the company. Therefore, the exoskeleton is one of the best tools we have to achieve this goal.

As an initial phase; where will exoskeletons be implemented at Sediasa Alimentación?

In Sediasa we have started the implementation of the equipment in the most ergonomically unfavorable areas, in each of the three large production sections. Once we have made progress with the tests carried out, we can affirm that the exoskeleton is compatible with practically all the positions developed in the factory, so we are considering a future in which it could be a generalized means of assistance in production.

Why did you choose Healthy Suits exoskeletons?

After several tests with different suppliers, we decided on Healthy Suits because of its comfort, elasticity, simplicity and the lack of rigid elements that interfere in the development of the tasks by the workers.

In the specific case of the food industry, an important factor is that the elements to be introduced are always compatible with food hygiene standards and specifications. The exoskeleton we use allows us to be used below the last layer of the body, thus complying with these requirements, and this is a factor to be taken into account in its implementation.

Due to the use of exoskeletons, have the working environments and the health of your workers improved?

The information returned by the workers is largely positive, with an acceptance rate of close to 90% among production workers. The workers report a reduction in low back pain and an improvement in their state of health, even in times of rest such as weekends or vacations.

From your organization, are you satisfied with the results of working and collaborating with Healthy Suits?

In Sediasa we consider that we have chosen Healthy Suits as our equipment supplier because of its ease and adaptation to our needs. We believe that the technology on which their equipment is based is at the forefront of the market.
